Another shooting in the United States and this time it’s children shooting children. Here’s the full article on CNN. It appears this little boy was able to get the family gun, which was loaded, and shoot his older sister in the back of the head. This was his response to her not giving him a video game controller. Just a tragic story with a life lost and several others that will never be the same. I’ve never been a fan of guns and think only on-duty police, military and security personnel should have them. I lived in Florida for many years and worked in almost all of the United States. The gun culture is embedded like threads in a woven cloth. It is their right to bear arms, but at what cost? While living in Florida; almost every spring break, a child was able to get the family gun and either kill themselves, a sibling or a friend. I don’t know how people can still justify all these guns in civilian hands, but they keep on buying more guns and more ammunition. If you’re a hunter, get yourself a knife and a bow and arrow and give the animals a fair chance. And when it comes to protection and self defense, this LA Times article will be very enlightening and show the numbers are a small drop in the bucket of guns being used for protection. The stats for most of these studies are always years behind, but the numbers are astounding. The image headlining this post shows… From 2001 to 2013, 406,496 people died by firearms on U.S. soil. Just think, if guns weren’t so readily available, over 400,000 lives had a chance to be around right now. And if that’s being overly optimistic, split it in half and say 200,000. Aren’t 200,000 lives worth giving up the guns? I don’t think it will happen, because of the revenue guns and ammunition bring in. But in light of all the recent mass shootings, we can only hope that something changes to reduce the lives lost due to firearms.
